Biography

James E. Davis, Jr. was born and grew up in Camden, South Carolina. He is the son of Easter and the late James E. Davis. James is married to Ida S. Davis and they have two children, Delia and Kal.

He is a graduate of Camden High School in Camden, South Carolina and obtained an Associate’s Degree from Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Newberry College in Physical Education. He now presently serves as Chief Magistrate Judge for the Kershaw County Summary Court.

James started his baseball career as a Junior in High School. After graduating high school, he was offered a professional contract with the New York Mets, but he chose to instead play on the Collegiate scale before playing on the professional level. After receiving scholarships to play baseball at Spartanburg Methodist College and Newberry College, he was awarded a contract which he signed on to play with the Cincinnati Reds and played for three years.

James is a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church where he has served as Lay Leader and on the Trustees Board and now presently serves as Chairman of the Administrative Counsel. James is the past Director for Parks and Recreation for Kershaw County; the past President of the Council on Aging Board for Kershaw County; serves on the Board of the United Way of Kershaw County; Kershaw County School Facilities Committee; formerly on the Kershaw County Detention Center Advisory Board; Kershaw County A-Tax Committee, past President of Camden Elementary School PTO; past President of the West Wateree Rotary Club; Director of the Board for the Food for the Soul of Kershaw County; and a member of the Kershaw County Branch of the NAACP.

Mr. Davis is a 33rd Degree Mason and past Master of Composite Lodge #372; past Associate Patron of Composite Chapter #227 Order of the Eastern Stars; past Potentate and currently serves as the Imperial Deputy of the Oasis of Al Bahr Temple #178 of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; Past Commander in Chief and currently serves as the Liaison of Booker T. Washington Consistory #225 of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry; member of the Holy Royal Arch Mason of Emmanuel Chapter #13; Hiram Council #4 of the Royal and select Masters of Florence, South Carolina.

James has served as the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of South Carolina as Assistant Grand Lecture and Special Deputy of the Six Masonic District; performed the Lodge of Sorrow for the Grand Lodge; and presently serves as the Right Worshipful Grand Junior Warden.
